The light: Evaluation

The problems we had when filming in the dark was that the camera was not really good controlling the light. The first time we film was not dark(4pm) and it look good after filming the shots outside but when going back to college, on the Mac it looked really dark and you could not really see much. So we had to use the lighting which was difficult as well because there was a shadow all the time and we only had one light which was causing a really big problem. When filming outside , we had to use the batteries for the light but because there was no dimmer it was hard to get the correct mount of light so to do this we had to wait for the batteries to finish so that the light well look dimmer. We did not want to make the lighting really obvious so it had to be dim. In side the house it was really difficult because from outside, inside the house is really dark and filming inside should we dark as well but dim. In the shot where the killer walks up the stairs the light looked yellow so it did not work really well. When filming we had to constantly change the angle of the light because it was casting a shadow which made the film look cheap. When filming inside the house, we used top lighting to make it look normal in the bathroom and bedroom. We used normal light because she is an ordinarily girl which lives alone, it can even create a sense of mystery and secrecy. When filming we used back lighting on the killer when opening the back garden door to create a silhouette and enhance shadows. We used it because it creates a sense of mystery, impending doom or internal struggle which represents the killer’s character. When filming, we used side lighting to show the character’s one side face which by doing this it creates mystery, intrigue or conspiracy. this type of lighting creates a sense of a dark side and a light side of a character.
