Evaluation for digital graphic and print

From this unit I have learnt all different types of tools on Photoshop. The first skill that I have learnt was how to make a brush, using a brush making a name label. I really enjoyed that lesson as the step by step was not difficult and I love making fancy name labels. I have made name labels before but not on Photoshop and on art clip. When I had a look at the rage of brushes there are on the list, I started missing around to see which brush type suits me more. So I found flower brushes which looked really nice. I started clicking on top of my name label and I ended up with a really nice look. Once me made our name label, we then learnt how to make our on brush. So I had to draw a picture, which was a traffic cone. Once I draw the picture I converted it in to a brush and used the brush. It was really easy to make our own brush. After having a lesson on using brush, I have used different types of brushes on all my other work. I have made my own brushes to use on my zombie texture work as well.

Then we had a lesson on using the pen tool. We had to pick a picture to cut out the outline by using the pen tool and then we re created the picture by adding colours on to our work. When I was using the pen tool, I did not understand how to use the tool at first because I think it was compucated. After I had asked the person sitting next to me, I had understood what to do so I went for it. I could not us the pen tool well because I had some lines that did not look good example:  the eyes of this penguin are not fully circled which I do not like to see on my work.

  As I am not really good at using the pen tool, to improve my skills in using the pen tool, I would need to use the pen tool often to build my skills on using it. If I am stuck on using the pen tool when I’m at home or Library, I should go on to the Internet and look at tutorials. As in this assignment, we did not use the pen tool every lesson, the skills I have built at limited, which I do not think I would be able to do a professional standard work. Next time I would take my time when using the pen tool so that I could get the lines right and make the work on to a high standard. I think the skills I used to develop this piece of work was reasonable because our time was limited and as I have done this in a rush the pen tool lines have not come out as I wanted them to be like.

Another work we did in lesson was to study light on photography. So we study what effects the light gives to objects in different angels of the light. Once we done that, we then moved on to making shadows on photos. The first one we did was the photo of a lady standing with a white background. It was really easy, as we had to make another shade using the same ladies photo. I think I done well on doing the shadow because it looks reality on the photo. In scary photos I think this skill would be really useful as it gives the photo a scary look. I think the skills I used to build that photo were reasonably because normally shadows are dull and do not require much work on them. To improve next time I am going to try and place the shadow on the right place so it does not look like they are separate but together.

The second bit of the lesson, we added shadow on to the face. So we took a photo from the pool drive and had a look and descried which way the light would be coming from. In this stage I did not enjoy it much because I could not do it promptly. It was really hard not to have half of the face darker then the other.  When I had half of the face darker then the other, I tried to darken the other side a bit more so the two sides together looks terrible, like half of the face does not belong to the same guys face on the other side.

As I am not good at painting with shadow, I should look at information on the Internet about shadow painting and see the tutorials so that I know what is right to do and what is not right. I show practicing with painting with shadow. If I so practicing then I think I would improve my skills to a high quality. Next time I am going to try not to go over the top with darken side and work move on the lighter side so the both sides can go together.

The next work we did was making a zombie. By using a photo from the Internet, I added from texture on to the photo to make the woman on the photo like a zombie and scary. It was really fun to make a zombie on Photoshop. I added all different types of layers on to my work, which ended up with this Photoshop work:

As I added layers on to the skin, the skin looks really dark and powerful with all the blood around the body. The only thing I could not do and was frustrated was that I could not change the background. I wanted to change the background in to a forest looking photo so it looks creepy but I could not because I did not know the step by step of it. I researched on the Internet to see the tutorials but they did not help, as I was more confused with changing the background. So then I ended up with having blood brush prints on the background. I do like the background with the blood and everything but if I had changed the background I think it would of make the photo work more interesting then it is now. When I built my skills on making a humans photo in to a zombie look photo work. So to build my skills I made another zombie work. When I was doing this work on my own time, I really enjoyed doing it as I had an image on my head, which I wanted to do. I ended up with this photo:

 Yet again my weakness on this photo is changing the background. To improve I would need to look up tutorials and do some practise. Once I do I think I would understand how to change the background and I would be ready for next time.

When I was creating my own logo for great Ormond street hospital charity, I had no idea about how I am going to lay out the logo with the writing and pictures. When I started drawing some plans, which could help me, get an idea of what to do for my logo. Once I had an idea of how I would layout my work. By using the pen tool I draw out the picture I scan. I did not like using the pen tool but because I had time to do my work, I did not do things in a rush. Once I done my teddy bear, I coloured it in and moved it on to the other page where I has my text on. Once I have done all the writing and colouring in I ended up with this logo:

I like the way it looks, nice and colourful just like most children would like it to be. Yet again I could not us the pen tool properly because there are bits that have not worked:

Overall I think my logo, poster and banner looks nice and reasonable. It’s on a high professicanal standard.
